Catherine Zeta-Jones And Michael Douglas Hit The Red Carpet With Their Kids

Catherine Zeta-Jones And Michael Douglas Hit The Red Carpet With Their Kids: Not a bad early Father's Day gift!

Dylan, 14, and Carys, 12, joined parents Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones on the red carpet for the Genesis Prize ceremony in Jerusalem to support their dad as he received the philanthropic honor. It was a rare public appearance for the young teens, who were perfectly poised as they smiled for family photos at Thursday's event.

The two actors say they prioritize time with Dylan and Carys over their demanding careers. "We try for as much as much as we can for the summer to be with the kids," Douglas told Extra in May.

After separating in 2013, Zeta-Jones and Douglas have since reconciled. "We're back stronger than ever," the 70-year-old actor said in an April "Ellen" appearance.

According to the organization's website, "The Genesis Prize honors individuals who have attained excellence and international renown in their chosen professional fields, and who inspire others through their engagement and dedication to the Jewish community and/or the State of Israel." Douglas accepted the honor and its $1 million prize (this year doubled by a donor to a whopping $2 million) on behalf of his work toward greater "inclusiveness and tolerance" within the Jewish community, Variety reported. The "Ant-Man" actor plans to donate his award money to Jewish charities that work to further that mission.

Sometimes Obama Is Just A Dad Too

Sometimes Obama Is Just A Dad Too: President Barack Obama's father left him and his mother when he was just a young child, and as president he has made a regular effort to spend time with his family every day.

On Father's Day, here are some glimpses of Obama just being a dad.

He's really proud of his daughters

obama family

Despite living in the White House, Obama says that his two daughters, Malia, 16, and Sasha, 14, are actually pretty normal.

"The truth is the girls are wonderful," Obama told "Extra," earlier this month. "You know they work hard, they work a lot harder than I ever did when I was a kid."

"Most importantly, they're kind, they're respectful, they don't have an attitude," he said. "Partly because maybe my mother-in-law was here, you know we say we don't want to see any attitude out of them. And they've been terrific."

He wants his daughters to make as much as their male counterparts

As president, Obama has backed legislation to get equal pay for women and has framed the issue as a personal one for him.

“Why would I want my spouse or my daughter discriminated against? That doesn’t make any sense,” he said in April.

He's got pretty good dating advice

Obama often jokes about the Secret Service detail that he has following his daughters around, but when it comes to dating, he has said that he wants to be hands off.

"What I've told them before is, as long as that young man is showing you respect, and is kind to you, then I'm not going to be hovering over every second," he told television host Steve Harvey in 2013.

Obama also said that it was "a little bit jarring" to see Malia in heels for the first time when she attended her first prom last year.

He helped coach Sasha's basketball team to a championship

obama coach

In 2012, Obama said that he helped the head coach of Sasha's basketball team run through practice drills on their way to winning a tournament championship. Obama also once filled in coaching for the team on short notice.

His daughters still think he is embarrassing

Obama told Extra earlier this month that Sasha and Malia still are embarrassed by him. Some of that may have been on display at the annual Turkey pardon in 2014 when he asked them if they wanted to pet the turkeys and Malia simply said “no.”

5 Standout Moments From The Firefly Music Festival

5 Standout Moments From The Firefly Music Festival: From June 18 to June 21, roughly 90,000 people -- and at least one dude with a Sad Kanye sign -- flocked to Dover, Delaware, for Firefly, a music festival that has grown extensively since its debut in 2012. With a jam-packed lineup that boasted everyone from Morrissey to Kid Cudi to Paul McCartney, and an equally unpredictable weather forecast, the weekend in the woodlands was certainly one to remember. Here are the highlights:

Paul McCartney's Unofficial Birthday Bash ...

On Friday night, the day after Paul McCartney turned 73, the musical legend took the stage and opened with a song most fitting for the evening, "Birthday." In between hits including "Something," "Hey Jude," "I've Just Seen a Face," and "Blackbird," The Beatles member also took time to acknowledge the victims in the Charleston church shooting. When he was finally finished with a two and a half hour setlist, that amazingly seemed too short, the entire sea of people who gathered at the main stage seemed to know they were in the presence of greatness.

... Followed By Zedd's After-Party

A freakin' Beatle is a tough act to follow, but somehow, Zedd managed to pull in a gigantic crowd and get the masses of tired, sunburned and muddy people up and dancing until he finished his set around 1 a.m. on Saturday. The 25-year-old DJ kept the audience interested with a mix of his signature bangers, like his radio hits featuring Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande, with the occassional random song thrown in there (and so we meet again, Kernkraft 400's "Zombie Nation.")

Catching Up With Clean Bandit

In the stifling humidity on Friday, it seemed there was no place we'd rather be than in the luxury of shade under the media tent, which is where Clean Bandit gathered for a brief chat with The Huffington Post. Basking in the success of their inescapable dance track, "Rather Be," the Grammy-award winning musicians reassured us we'd be hearing a lot more of them, including their freshly released track with Marina and the Diamonds.

"We're an instrumental band, so each vocalist adds their own personality to the songs," cellist Grace Chatto said.

"We've always wanted to work with Janelle Monae ... we've got a long list of singers we'd love to collaborate with. We're really open to anything," added violinist Neil Amin-Smith.

The Chainsmokers And Their #Selfie-Wareness

Yes, these are the two dudes (Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart) who do the "#SELFIE" song, and they really don't care what you think about that.

"We're not depressed and we're not writing love songs just because that's what everyone else is doing. We're writing songs about wanting to be like Kanye and seeing basic bitches in the club because that's what we're going through," Pall told HuffPost.

"There are always going to be critics, so we just focus on being ourselves," Taggart, the other half of the DJ group, added.

Bastille's "No Scrubs" Cover

As the four-day festival was winding down, and the storm troopers who had lasted after Saturday night's evacuation gathered for Bastille's set, it seemed there was no better time for the band's slowed-down cover of "No Scrubs." At that point, we didn't want no scrubs -- unless you were talking about the kind of scrubs we could use to rub the mud cakes off of our calves.

Listen to the cover here:

See you in the woodlands next year, #FireflyFam!

How To Eat Spaghetti Like A Lady, According To A Vintage Issue Of Life Magazine

How To Eat Spaghetti Like A Lady, According To A Vintage Issue Of Life Magazine: In 1942, "Bambi" was released by Walt Disney, Jimi Hendrix was born and folks were instructed to eat forkfuls of spaghetti four noodles at a time.

A vintage issue of Time Life provided a step-by-step guide to teach people how to eat noodles with charm and dignity. No, it's not as simple as transporting the food from plate to mouth; there is a certain art to eating tube-shaped sauced carbohydrates. If you're interested in learning the most polite method of spaghetti consumption, look no further than the tutorial below. All quoted captions are Time Life's originals.

Step 1: "Four strands of spaghetti should be segregated from the pile."

No more and no less. Anything larger would be positively vulgar.

Step 2: "With soup spoon as prop, twirl fork and spaghetti gently."

slide_435632_5700446_free.jpg?

Alfred Eisenstaedt via Getty Images

No diner should have to endure the indecency of loose pasta splattering on a pristine tablecloth. The spoon acts as a noodle hood, mitigating potential twirling mishaps.

Step 3: "A ladylike mouthful of spaghetti is ready for consumption."

slide_435632_5700450_free.jpg

Alfred Eisenstaedt via Getty Images

After the taxing work of segregating and twirling, this mouthful is just about ready to eat. Admire the masterpiece wrapped around the fork.

Step 4: "Full forkfuls should be consumed in entirety. Nibbling is out."

slide_435632_5700456_free.jpg

Alfred Eisenstaedt via Getty Images

If you plan to nibble, well, don't. Nibbling is out! The spaghetti has been twirled into a sizable portion, meant for a chomp, not a delicate, rabbit-like bite.

Step 5: "Truant strands require patience, lip facility, suck-power."

slide_435632_5700438_free.jpg

Alfred Eisenstaedt via Getty Images

Noodles will inevitably escape from your mouth, but we have lips for a reason. According to Time, that reason is "suck-power."

Step 6: "With end in sight, diner has consumed 160 in. of spaghetti."

slide_435632_5700440_free.jpg

Alfred Eisenstaedt via Getty Images

You've done it! You are prim, you are proper and you're ready for another four noodles. Some may be exhausted by this process by the end of the meal, but with practice you'll become a disciplined diner worthy of an etiquette trophy.

Taylor Swift Explains Why '1989' Won't Be on Apple Music in Open Letter

Taylor Swift Explains Why '1989' Won't Be on Apple Music in Open Letter:

Taylor Swift has penned an open letter to Apple Music on her Tumblr explaining why her album 1989 won't be on Apple's new streaming service when it launches on June 30th. In the long note titled "To Apple, Love Taylor," Swift takes issue with Apple Music's free three-month trial for users, a period of time in which the service will not compensate artists for what is streamed.

"I'm sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service," Swift wrote. "I'm not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company." Beggars Group and other independent labels also have expressed concerns about this free trial where their artists will be "unremunerated," while Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe accused Apple Music of bullying him during agreement negotiations. (An Apple spokesperson denied Newcombe's claims to Rolling Stone.)

Swift, who calls Apple "one of my best partners in selling music and creating ways for me to connect with my fans," has been at the forefront of the fight for more royalties and better transparency from streaming services. Last November, the singer abruptly pulled her 1989 off Spotify, the industry leader in streaming, because "I just don't agree with perpetuating the perception that music has no value and should be free," she said at the time. When the all-star Tidal emerged earlier this year, Swift again refrained from offering up 1989, even though the rest of her catalog was available.

"This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows," Swift wrote in her Apple Music open letter. "This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year's worth of plays on his or her songs."

Swift – like the independent labels that are currently reluctant to sign their Apple Music contracts – is hopeful that Apple can sort things about before the service debuts in nine days. "I realize that Apple is working towards a goal of paid streaming. I think that is beautiful progress," Swift wrote. "We know how astronomically successful Apple has been and we know that this incredible company has the money to pay artists, writers and producers for the 3 month trial period… even if it is free for the fans trying it out."

Swift even seems amenable to giving Apple Music something that no other streaming platform can offer – 1989 – if Apple's service works out their free three-month trial issues. To close out her open letter, Swift makes a cutting comparison for Apple: "We don't ask you for free iPhones. Please don't ask us to provide you with our music for no compensation."
